How to Make a Cleaning Schedule

When it comes to keeping your facility in tip top shape, it can be tricky to know where to start. Keeping commercial properties clean, safe and a healthy environment for your employees is no easy feat, and it’s important to get it right so you’re keeping your facility up to code.

Note that there is no one right way to clean your facility – every business is different, and every building has different needs. If it’s easier to divide the janitorial upkeep into one task per day, or create a rotating schedule, then do what works best for you and your facility!

However, here at OpenWorks, we have found that the most efficient and simple way to keep your facility in the best condition possible is to devise a cleaning schedule. And because here at OpenWorks our business is to improve your business, we’ve come up with a sample checklist that splits a typical facility’s cleaning needs into daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. A general cleaning schedule will include the below:

    Daily Schedule
    The office and the lobby

    • Dust mopping and damp mopping hard flooring
    • Vacuuming carpets
    • Cleaning glass surfaces (particularly partition glass)
    • Emptying trash cans and replacing liners
    • Removing clutter from surfaces
    • Dusting surfaces

    Bathrooms

    • Cleaning and sanitizing all toilets, urinals and basins
    • Cleaning and polishing mirrors
    • Emptying all trash cans and receptacles and cleaning with disinfectant
    • Restocking soap, towel and tissue dispensers
    • Dusting all surfaces
    • Wiping down walls where needed
    • Mopping and rinsing flooring with disinfectant

    Weekly Schedule
    The office and the lobby

    • Vacuuming carpeting thoroughly, taking care to reach corners and hard to reach places
    • Dust mopping and damp mopping hard flooring, taking care to reach corners and hard to reach places
    • Emptying refrigerator
    • Cleaning microwave

    Monthly Schedule
    The office and the lobby

    • Dusting in hard to reach places, such as high corners
    • Cleaning air vents
    • Vacuuming furniture, such as office chairs and other upholstery
    • Deep cleaning carpets
    • Polishing and buffing hard floors

This is by no means an exhaustive list, and your facility may need a lighter cleaning schedule, or a schedule with specialty services. For more information on how OpenWorks has benefited facilities across the country, visit our website here.
