Q&A with Director of Finance, Liz Jorgensen
Liz has been with the OpenWorks team for seven years, and during that time has risen through the company’s ranks. Starting as the Controller, she has recently been promoted to Director of Finance. Here, she talks her through her time at OpenWorks, what she loves about her job, and her experience watching the company change and grow.
Q: What is your position at OpenWorks and how long have you been with the company?
A: I am the Director of Finance and have been at OpenWorks for seven years.
Q: What are your job responsibilities, or what does a typical day look like for you at your job?
A: My kids think I count money all day; however, that is just one part of my job. I am responsible for ensuring the company is financially fit, protected from risks, ensuring every dollar is watched and protected and forecasting ahead to know what decisions will look like financially. My typical day is surrounded by my amazing team where we all working together toward the common goal of moving OW ahead financially.
Q: What led you to working for OpenWorks? (Also, if you were promoted from within, please elaborate)
A: I was led to OW by a prior OW employee and good friend. It was exactly how he described, a great financial business model.
Q: What do you love about your job?
A: I love accounting and numbers because they are exciting to me. Understanding the numbers and what caused them is my wheel house. My former position, as Controller, focused on the past, but my new position as Director of Finance allows me to look ahead and focus more on budgeting and forecasting. This is exciting in a different way.
Q: What do you love about working for OpenWorks?
A: I love how family friendly OW is, allowing me to not only work in the field I love, but also be a great mother and wife.
Q: What makes OpenWorks the employer of choice?
A: OpenWorks is constantly moving forward in technology, office growth around us, and development of their employees. I have learned at a greater speed than at any other time in my career due to my visionary and passionate leader, Julie McCollum. She and my team keep me happy and obsessed about OW. I truly do bleed green.
Q: Is there anything coming up that you’re excited about in your job or for OpenWorks in general?
A: Yes! I am looking forward and ensuring the financial health of OW as we expand by another four offices in 2018.
