The Emerald City. Famous for its distinguishing skyline (you can’t miss the Space Needle!) and notorious for its drizzly weather, Seattle has certainly found its place among some of America’s most popular and beloved cities. Seattle is an amazing place to live and work. In fact, it was named the No. 1 best city for jobs in 2015! If that doesn’t have you packing your bags already, check out these other great things Seattle has to offer:
It has a low unemployment rate. There’s a good reason Seattle is a great city to find a job. Not only is it home to 10 Fortune 500 companies and a booming tech industry, but it also has a 4.5 percent unemployment rate — lower than the U.S. average.
It’s beautiful. Have you ever wondered why Seattle’s nickname is the Emerald City? It’s because it is surrounded by lush, natural beauty on all sides — and within the city itself! There are thousands of acres of parkland in Seattle, not to mention the mountains and ocean on either side providing stunning views and a whole range of outdoor activities year-round. And the supposed bad weather you’re always hearing about? Forget about it! Seattle’s reputation for rainfall is actually a misconception, with many cities recording as many as 10-20 more inches of rainfall per year than Seattle.
It has great food (and drinks!). Located right next to the Puget Sound, Seattle is home to some amazing seafood. Foodies of all kinds love walking through Pike Place Market and looking at all the goodies local vendors have to offer — everything from fresh cut flowers to fresh caught squid can be found in the wooden walkways of this world-famous market. And did we mention drinks yet? Seattle is the coffee capital of the United States, if not the world. While it is the birthplace of Starbucks, this city of coffee lovers can find unique coffee shops and cafes all over the city to get their caffeine fix. In fact, the state of Washington has more coffee bean roasters per capita than any other state!
